GUNs and rosaries
58 mins (2019)
Fr. Patrick Peyton was a humble Irish priest, who became an unlikely media evangelist, first on American radio and then on TV there, starting in the mid 1940’s.
His life’s mission was to spread devotion to the family rosary of our Lady worldwide. He created the slogan, ‘The family that prays together stays together’ to fuel the growth of his rosary crusade. His genius was in successfully adopting the culture of Hollywood celebrity to support and further this message. His family theatre radio plays and television dramas featured a succession of Hollywood’s most famous film stars e.g. Gregory Pecky, Shirley Temple, Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby. His phenomenal success in developing his weapon of mass devotion- prayer – brought him to the attention of the CIA, which funded his campaign in Central and South America, in its Cold War battle with communism.
